STE students held successful concert on the 11th of December at the Orange Hub. Councillor Jennifer Rice kindly opened our concert with a thoughtful speech on the role of music. In the first half, along with the beautifully performed Suzuki pieces we heard Ray Charles’ Hit the Road Jack by double basses, dynamic and energetic Vikings by Newbold impressively played by our small but mighty orchestra. A special treat was Mandalorian Theme, arranged by our teacher Mark Eeles played by Senior Cello group, which included STE alumni Nicholas Yee.
The second half of the concert was dedicated to the new creative classes we hold on Tuesdays. We heard improvisation on Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Sticks by Wolff. Four chamber groups impressed us with collaborative and listening skills. We even got to hear our new featured instrument guitar in one of the duos! Concert finished with the fanfares of Mozart’s The Hunt played by Edmonton’s Vertex Quartet featuring 2 of STE teachers.
STE would like to express a big heartful thank you to all the parents behind the scenes who helped tremendously to make this concert possible live and online!
Now we are off to a well deserved rest! Happy New Year and Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it!
